To start the process of becoming a client, you will first need to book an initial consultation with our attorneys. Each potential client’s case is thoroughly reviewed to understand the legal issues and underlying goals of each person that we speak to. The initial consultation is the key starting point to thorough representation.

We will ask you questions about the problems that you currently face and what you would like to have happen to resolve the issues in and out of court. To accomplish a thorough consultation, it is important for us to speak to the client directly and not another individual although they may have concern over the matter. This not only allows us to gain the correct information, but it also allows us to maintain attorney-client privilege.

Attorney client-privilege is an important aspect to a case that ensures that communication is kept confidential. If a third party or someone who is not the client discusses the matter, they could potentially be subpoenaed or questioned in the court of law to gain information that hurts the potential client’s case.

At every consultation, confidentiality is maintained between the attorney and the potential client. There are several instances where confidentiality may not be maintained, but it is extremely rare. Those instances include if a potential client is planning or currently committing a crime, concealing income, destroying evidence, or asking an attorney to present false information. Attorneys cannot assist in these instances. If an attorney receives information involving a missing person or person in imminent danger, the attorney may need to report the issue based on state ethics requirements.

To prepare for your initial consultation, it is important to gather the necessary information about the issues involved. If there is an upcoming court date, it is important to let the attorney know as quickly as possible.

After the consultation has concluded, the attorney will determine if the matter is a case that Chicago Family Attorneys, LLC can handle on behalf of the potential client. If the attorney agrees that the case is something that can be handled by the firm, a quote for legal fees will be given to the client and a legal retainer agreement will be sent to the client.

Fees for clients range widely based upon the level of difficulty of the case, the time required to work on the matter, and the expenses involved. If there are ongoing court dates that need to occur, more than likely a retainer will be requested that the firm will bill against. If the matter involves only drafting of documentation, the law firm may only charge a flat fee.

Upon payment of the initial legal fees, the attorneys will then start working on your matter immediately to try and resolve your legal concerns as quickly as possible.
